Second Majors for SUSS Undergraduate Students

If you wish to declare a second major with no admission requirements, please do so via SUSSConnect. For a second major with admission requirements, please write to Student Services to indicate your interest to take the second major.
The second major broadens or complements the knowledge and training attained in the major. Currently, only selected full-time undergraduate students enrolled from July 2023 semester onwards can take a second major.
Students are required to complete 60 credit units (cu) for a second major, including at least 20 cu of higher-level courses (i.e. level 3 or above courses).
Minors with an asterisk are restricted second majors, i.e. they have admission requirements or are open to selected students only.

Second Majors offered by S R Nathan School of Human Development
To be admitted into the second major, interested students need to be a L2 ECDA registered teacher and have one of the following:
- 2 GCE A-Level passes with at least a B4 grade in GCE O-Level English Language + ECDA (PQAC) accredited Diploma in Preschool Teaching or Early Childhood Care and Education (DPE-T/DECCE-T);
- Local 3-year Polytechnic Diploma (non-ECE) + ECDA (PQAC) or DPE-T/DECCE-T and at least a B4 grade in GCE O-Level English Language;
- Local 3-year Polytechnic Diploma (ECE) and at least a B4 grade in GCE O-Level English Language.
On a case-by-case basis or special circumstance consideration for L2 registered teachers with at least 6 years of full-time EC teaching experience but only have GCE O-Level qualification (i.e., no full-time polytechnic diploma or GCE ‘A’ levels or equivalent) would be considered for admission.

To be admitted into the second major, interested students need to meet the admission requirements of the Bachelor of Early Childhood and Chinese Language Education 学前华文教育学士学位.

To be admitted into the second major, interested students need to fulfill the following requirements:
- At least a B4 grade in GCE O-Level English Language, a pass in GCE A-Level General Paper or equivalent;
- At least a C5 grade in GCE O-Level Mathematics, or a pass in GCE A-Level Mathematics or Statistics; and
- Completed and passed PSY107 Introduction to Psychology 1 and PSY108 Introduction to Psychology 2.
The Second Major in Public Safety and Security equips you with the knowledge of criminal law, cybersecurity, crisis communication, and global crime by blending theories with real-world applications. You will also develop critical thinking and skills to tackle evolving threats in an increasingly complex and interconnected world.
To be admitted into the second major, interested students need to submit a written essay expressing interest in the second major and addressing a topic on public safety and security, as well as be assessed through an Activity Centre with a group of other students.

The Second Major in Sociology gives you a deeper grounding in sociological theory, research methods, and quantitative and qualitative data analysis, while exploring key issues such as Singapore society, gender, inequality, family, education, health, ageing, culture, religion, urban life, and technology.

To be admitted into the second major, interested students need to pass ICT133 Structured Programming and ICT162 Object Oriented Programming with a minimum CGPA of 2.5 for the two courses.
