Synopsis

Business excellence applies to all for-profit and not-for-profit organisations. Business excellence implies that an organisation is able to operate competitively and sustain long term profitable growth while meeting sustainability goals. Achieving business excellence requires a holistic and integrative effort in ensuring relevant areas of an organisation operate with excellence. Developing business excellence is a manifestation of continuous improvements in all relevant activities of the organisation. These relevant areas include leadership, customers, strategy planning, people development, innovations and process improvements, information and analytics, and performance measurements. Business excellence frameworks are used as roadmaps to guide and drive business excellence. This course will discuss fundamental aspects of business excellence requirements and the major criteria used to drive and evaluate business excellence in organisations. Students will also learn how to plan and target necessary improvements to help the organisation in its drive to achieve business excellence. In addition, students will gain knowledge on how to integrate ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) practices, use of digital technologies, and incorporation of Industrial 4.0 technologies in meeting the requirements of business excellence. On the successful completion of this course, students will be capable of planning for and managing business excellence. In addition, students will be able to facilitate the self-assessment of business excellence in organisations and apply necessary plans to sustain business excellence in these organisations.
