Ancient Chinese History (中国古代史概论) (CHS102)


CHS102 systematically expounds on the basic content and development of ancient Chinese history. Students will have a deeper understanding of ancient Chinese history, including the ancient Xia, Shang and Zhou, Qin and Han, Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, Sui, Tang and Five Dynasties, Song, Liao, Xia, Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. The content will involve politics, economy, military, education, culture, literature, art, etc. in various historical periods of China, focusing on the developmental context and basic characteristics of each historical period.

Learning Outcome

  • Identify the development of Chinese history from the Xia Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty
  • Discuss the political systems and economic conditions of various dynasties in China
  • Describe major historical events, reforms and reforms, revolutions and wars that occurred in various dynasties in China
  • Demonstrate in-depth understanding of the rise and fall, division and unification of Chinese dynasties
  • Explain the characteristics of ancient Chinese political, institutional, economic and social development in each historical stage
  • Apply the acquired knowledge to analyse and understand historical issues and phenomena
