CHS103 examines the fundamentals of modern Chinese pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, etc., so that students can organically combine modern Chinese practice with modern Chinese theory. The phonetic component examines the characteristics and properties of speech, vowels, consonants, syllables, phonemes, and sound changes; the vocabulary component investigates morphemes, the nature of word meanings, the aggregation and change of word meanings, the composition of vocabulary, fixed words, etc.; and the grammar component explores speech, phrases, syntax, sentence patterns, sentence types, and complex sentences.
