Redefining Translation in the Digital Age (CTI212)

Synopsis

The course introduces students to the latest technologies in the digital age and equips them with the skills to use those technologies in translation. Students will learn about the characteristics and functions of major translation technologies such as machine translation, computer-aided translation and localisation. They will then be introduced to the latest developments, including AI and blockchain, so as to develop an understanding of how these technologies shape translation technology and transform translation practice. Through hands-on practice activities using different platforms and software to complete real-life translation projects, students will learn how to work with the technology to enhance their productivity and the quality of their translation.

Presentation Pattern: Every January
E-Learning: BLENDED - Learning is done MAINLY online using interactive study materials in Canvas. Students receive guidance and support from online instructors via discussion forums and emails. This is supplemented with SOME face-to-face sessions. If the course has an exam component, this will be administered on-campus.
