Synopsis

ELG252 provides the conceptual framework for understanding the nature of English in other cultural contexts, often referred to by the global term ‘New/World Englishes’. It explores the social, linguistic and educational implications of historical and contemporary developments in the spread of English as a World Language and enables students to understand engage in current debates about the status of non-native Englishes.
