Synopsis

ELG366 Language and Education explores different models of literacy and language education, the politics of literacy, as well as the past, present and future of literacy practices. Students will be introduced to the theoretical approaches used to analyse the nature and use of oral, visual and written texts in the learning of language in formal and non-formal educational contexts. The course considers the role and place of English in the field of education through the analysis of literacy events and practices at home, in school and at work, as situated within specific language policy contexts.
