GER201 students are introduced to the opportunities for innovation and technologies in the Ageing Society. In this course, we will introduce the state of technologies in the care of older persons in the community. The field of technology has rapidly evolved to provide person centered approach in improving the quality of life and independence for older persons and their family members. Using innovative thinking tools, students can be better equipped to perform their viable role in the ageing community and empowered by conducive technologies in Artificial Intelligence (AI), IoT, and more new possibilities to reduce the barriers and improve acceptance to technologies. AI excels in pattern recognition and has successfully broken new grounds in health screening, diagnosis of condition and pharmaceutical support. Ageing is multi-factorial and multi-dimensional over a period of time. It can benefit from fields of informatics in home environment, integrated healthcare systems, consumer level health informatics, nutrition and medication. This course will provide an overview of the expanding field of health informatics to support interdisciplinary needs of researchers, clinicians, carers and policy makers for the ageing community.
