Synopsis

PSS333 Future of Food and Agriculture introduces the students to the changing notion of food and how we grow and eat it. This paradigm shift in agriculture is driven by the need to feed a growing population whilst tackling the issue of environmental degradation. Increasing food production is just one part of the solution; this course highlights the need to consider other factors such as the provision of nutritional food for the population. Research and scientific development in this area have resulted in numerous innovations, leading to a food and agriculture revolution. With food production being rapidly transformed, there is a need to assimilate these changes within the social and economy-wide context. This course aims to educate students on the challenges relating to food and agriculture with the objective of not just producing more food, but also of considering strategies for optimal food quality and food production systems.
