Unlike other content courses, which emphasizes the acquisition of psychological knowledge and its applications, this course aims to develop in students the knowledge and skills to conduct an independent inquiry and write up a report on your research study.

Presentation Pattern: Every January


  • Week 1: Course overview; Choosing a topic, framing a research question and conducting a literature review
  • Week 2: Tutor discusses how to commence on a literature search to frame a research question.
  • Week 4: Students finalize their topic and refine their research question.
  • Week 5: Quantitative & qualitative research methods, Collecting and managing data collection
  • Week 6: Students discuss the methodology of their research projects with their tutors, e.g. design, operationalization of variables and data collection procedures.
  • Week 8: Discussion of Project Proposal (PPL01): Preparing the research proposal.
  • Week 9: Data analysis
  • Week 10: Discussion of Project Proposal (PPL01): Finalizing the research proposal.
  • Week 12: Students finalize their questionnaires, etc and start data collection during the term break
  • Week 13: Data analysis
  • Week 15: Data analysis; Presenting and discussing the results
  • Week 16: Students report on their projects’ progress and tutor advises students on appropriate approaches to data analysis.
  • Week 17: Preparing for Oral Presentation and putting together a Final Report
  • Week 18: Students complete data analysis and report on their projects’ progress. Students write a draft of their Results section.
  • Week 19: Students present their results and discuss them. Tutor gives feedback. Students write a draft of their Discussion section.
  • Week 21: Students do a trial Oral Presentation and tutor gives feedback. Students submit a draft of the Final Report, tutor gives feedback
  • Week 22: Students do a trial Oral Presentation and tutor gives feedback. Students submit a draft of the Final Report, tutor gives feedback
  • Week 23 and 24: Revision of Final Report
  • Week 3, 7, 11, 20 - No lesson. Week 14: Term Break
