In this current challenging business environment, employing the right individual for the organisation is crucial. Hiring the wrong individual not only have an impact on the cost of operation but also on the morale, productivity, and efficiency of the organisation.
A critical step in employee selection is the interviewing and selection process. The competency-based interview and selection technique focuses on the applicant past actions or behaviour concerning the competencies or skills required for the job applied. Through this method, hiring is more structured and focus rather than based on guesswork, potential bias or discrimination.
Adopting an interactive and experiential-based approach, the instructor will adopt a combination of lectures, group discussions, structured activities, videos and role-plays.
This course is for any employees who are required to interview candidates.
- Introduction to Competency-Based Interviewing
- Traditional vs Competency-Based Interview
- Identification of competencies based on job roles
- Techniques to develop questions
- Prepare, conduct interview and selection of candidate

Mr Yeo Beng Teck is an adjunct lecturer in Nathan School of Human Development and Centre for Continuing & Professional Education, Singapore University of Social Sciences. With more than 25 years working experience, Beng Teck holds various positions from Account Management, Service Delivery Manager for Asia, to Acting Director of Learning and Development (Asia-Pacific) in a multinational corporation. He currently provides HR consultancy and facilitates workshops focusing on talent management, performance management, leadership and management, teamwork and organisational behaviour. Beng Teck graduate with a Master of Science in Industrial/Organisational Psychology and HRM from Baruch College - City University of New York.

1 Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy: Singaporeans aged 40 and above may enjoy subsidies up to 90% of the course fees.
2 Enhanced Training Support for SMEs: SME-sponsored employees (Singaporean Citizens and PRs) aged 21 and above may enjoy subsidies up to 90% of the course fees.
3 Additional subsidy for Singaporeans: With effect from 1 January 2023, the GST rate will be revised from 7% to 8%. There will be no fee increase for Singaporeans taking SSG subsidized course(s) from 1 January to 31 December 2023.
- Participants are required to achieve at least 75% attendance and pass any prescribed examinations/assessments or submit any course/project work (if any) under the course requirement.
- Participants are required to complete all surveys and feedbacks related to the course.
- The course fees are reviewed annually and may be revised. The University reserves the right to adjust the course fees without prior notice.
