This scholarship is made possible by the estate of Irene Tan Liang Kheng, an investor and philanthropist. Mdm Tan, wife of Mr Ong Tiong Tat, was close friends with the late Mr Koh Choon Joo, a lawyer and philanthropist who left much of his wealth to various institutions. Mdm Tan, Mr Ong, and Mr Koh shared a belief in uplifting the poor through education. Known for her generosity and kindness, Mdm Tan cared for her mother and Mr Koh for nearly a decade. Despite battling cancer, she continued to plan and gift her wealth. The current executor is her nephew, Mr Tan Hsuan Heng.
