The Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) represents a vibrant community of over 14,000 legal professionals, including judges, practitioners, and academics. Its mission is to enhance the intellectual capital of the legal profession through thought leadership, world-class infrastructure, and innovative legal solutions. SAL aims to raise Singapore’s international legal profile and promote the country as a hub for dispute resolution. It supports legal professionals at all stages of their careers and fosters excellence through accreditation schemes, including the appointment of Senior Counsel.

Who is Eligible?

  • New law students who are eligible for government tuition grant in the Bachelor of Laws and Juris Doctor programmes;
  • Singapore citizen with good academic and co-curricular activities records, active participation in community service and possess strong language skills;
  • Monthly household Per Capita Income (PCI) of S$4,300 or lower. 

Tenure of Scholarship

The scholarship is awarded for the minimum period required to complete the Bachelor of Laws (4.5 years) or Juris Doctor (4 years) programme.

Value of Scholarship

The scholarship award will cover 100% of the tuition fees (including tuition grant) plus living allowances of $10,000 per year that the student is supported for under the award. There is no bond attached to the scholarship.

The decision of Singapore Academy of Law is final and binding, and no reasons will be given for the non-selection of unsuccessful candidates. No appeals will be entertained.

The Tan Hee Joek Scholarship is named in memory of the late Mr Tan Hee Joek, who passed away in September 2023. A former President of the Association of Criminal Lawyers of Singapore, Mr Tan was a highly respected criminal defence lawyer known for his dedication to justice. His unwavering passion for justice also led him to devote his time to pro bono work in helping individuals clear their names. His cases were also featured in Singapore TV series “Verdict”.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Students in the Bachelor of Laws and Juris Doctor programmes
  • Singapore citizen or Permanent Resident with impressive academic and co-curricular activities records, strong language skills, and demonstrable leadership qualities;
  • Monthly household income per capita (PCI) does not exceed S$4,300; and
  • Minimum CGPA of 3.5


Tenure of Scholarship

The tenure of this scholarship is one academic year. There is no bond attached to the scholarship.

Value of Scholarship

Each scholarship is S$7,500 and will be used within the awarded academic year (2 semesters) to offset the recipient's tuition fees.

How to Apply?

Application period: 1 August – 15 September

To apply, you need to submit your e-application together with the supporting documents by the stipulated closing date. Applications without supporting documents will be deemed as incomplete and will not be processed.

Only successful candidates shall be notified via email by end November. The decision of the Student Awards Committee of SUSS is final and binding, and no reason will be given for the non-selection of unsuccessful candidates. No appeal will be entertained.

This scholarship is made possible by the estate of Irene Tan Liang Kheng, an investor and philanthropist. Mdm Tan, wife of Mr Ong Tiong Tat, was close friends with the late Mr Koh Choon Joo, a lawyer and philanthropist who left much of his wealth to various institutions. Mdm Tan, Mr Ong, and Mr Koh shared a belief in uplifting the poor through education. Known for her generosity and kindness, Mdm Tan cared for her mother and Mr Koh for nearly a decade. Despite battling cancer, she continued to plan and gift her wealth. The current executor is her nephew, Mr Tan Hsuan Heng.

Who is Eligible?

The Irene Tan Liang Kheng Scholarship for Law aims to provide financial assistance to deserving students in the Bachelor of Laws and Juris Doctor programmes offered by the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS).

You should be a Singapore citizen with impressive academic and co-curricular activities records, strong language skills, and demonstrable leadership qualities. New students must separately seek admission to the programme and must be accepted for admission before being considered for the scholarship.

Tenure of Scholarship

The scholarship is awarded for the minimum period required to complete the Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor programme.

Value of Scholarship

The scholarship award will cover 100% of the tuition fees (including tuition grant) capped at S$50,000 per student. There is no bond attached to the scholarship.

SUSS Sponsorships

Committed to the promotion of lifelong learning, Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) funds a number of Sponsorships in recognition of excellent academic achievements, leadership qualities and special talents and contributions to new and continuing students in the Bachelor of Laws programme. SUSS works with various organisations in offering these SUSS-funded sponsorships to their members and/or staff.

The SUSS-NTUC Sponsorship scheme aims to provide suitable candidates with the opportunity to enrol in the Bachelor of Laws programme with SUSS and develop skills for life.

Who is Eligible?

The sponsorship is open to all NTUC union members with NTUC Card.

You must be a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident with impressive academic and co-curricular activities records, strong language skills, and demonstrable leadership qualities. You must also not already be a degree holder.

New students must meet the admission requirements for the applied programme of study at the University. They must separately seek admission to the programme and must be accepted for admission before being considered for the sponsorship.

You must be a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident with impressive academic and co-curricular activities records, strong language skills, and demonstrable leadership qualities. You must also not already be a degree holder.

New students must meet the admission requirements for the applied programme of study at the University. They must separately seek admission to the programme and must be accepted for admission before being considered for the sponsorship.

Who is Eligible?

The sponsorship is open to all HomeTeamNS Ordinary members, Associate members and staff who have at least 12 months' of membership validity.

You must be a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident with impressive academic and co-curricular activities records, strong language skills, and demonstrable leadership qualities. You must also not already be a degree holder.

New students must meet the admission requirements for the applied programme of study at the University. They must separately seek admission to the programme and must be accepted for admission before being considered for the sponsorship.

The sponsorship is open to leaders of the Labour Movement and graduates of the Diploma in Employment Development programme, that is jointly offered by Ong Teng Cheong Labour Leadership Institute (OTCi) and SUSS.

You must be a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident with impressive academic and co-curricular activities records, strong language skills, and demonstrable leadership qualities. You must also not already be a degree holder.

New students must meet the admission requirements for the applied programme of study at the University. They must separately seek admission to the programme and must be accepted for admission before being considered for the sponsorship.

This sponsorship provides opportunity for high potential national players to pursue higher education with Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS). 

Who is Eligible?

The sponsorship is open to Singapore Citizen and Singapore Permanent Resident athletes nominated by the Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA). Nominated applicants must fulfil the selection criteria set by the University and STTA. They must meet the admission requirements for the applied course of study, and must not already be degree holders from any University.

Tenure of Sponsorship

The sponsorship is awarded for the period required to complete the full programme of study. There is no bond attached to the sponsorship.
