SUSS Dialogue Session: Bachelor of Laws and Juris Doctor

SUSS Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and Juris Doctor (JD) programme will develop you into a lawyer within the legal community who specialises in Criminal Law or Family Law practice. The programmes provide you with in-depth training as well as exposure to cross-disciplinary areas like sociology, social work and forensics that will arm you with the ability to approach issues from more holistic angles.

Bachelor of Laws students will take additional 30 credit units of electives from the areas of law, psychology or social work. In your final year of study, you will be required to attend and complete a Legal Clerkship Programme that will provide structured training in the application of legal and professional knowledge in real-life situations. Both degrees are recognised under the Legal Profession Act, and as long as you graduate with a CGPA of 3.5, you will become a 'qualified person' under the Legal Profession Act and shall be eligible to sit for Part B of the Bar Examinations.

The curriculum will be modular and credit-based. For students without a first degree, they will be required to complete 180 credit units to graduate from the LLB programme; for students with a first degree, they will be required to complete 150 credit units to graduate from the JD programme. The LLB programme can be completed in 4.5 to 6 years, and the JD programme can be completed in 4 to 6 years.
