Promote continuing education in the built environment with new strategic MOU between RICS and SUSS

Singapore, June 4, 2020 – Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today to promote continuing education amongst built environment practitioners. The collaboration intends to raise the standard of the industry by jointly developing and offering relevant seminars/talks/training courses.

Recognising the mutual interest between RICS and SUSS in the field of education, research, training & development and dissemination of knowledge, the MoU is established to promote international collaboration and increase contribution to social development.

Marcus Lim, Head of Singapore, Southeast Asia of RICS said: “As part of our commitment to drive industry transformation, the partnership is an important step forward for us to further contribute, upskill and uplift the built environment with more relevant insights and in-demand technical skills relating to the industry.”

Professor Attallah Samir, Dean of School of Science and Technology at SUSS, said: “This partnership will help provide continuing learning for built environment practitioners to stay competitive in the ever-changing sector. With SUSS’s expertise in the delivery of online and applied learning, it will allow busy professionals to enjoy better work-life-study balance, while gaining valuable industry-relevant skill sets.”

Kicking off the collaboration, RICS is running a webinar on July 10, 2020 regarding a research study undertaken by Dr Sheila Conejos, Senior Lecturer in the School of Science and Technology, SUSS. She will share her findings from the research study which is the first comprehensive assessment to determine the green maintainability potential and performance of high-rise Vertical Greenery Systems (VGS) in tropical conditions, hence leading to the formulation of case study-based ‘design for maintainability’ (DfM) guidelines.

Going forward, RICS and SUSS will continue to roll out a series of joint activities that are both insightful and reflective of the current market.
