Accreditation Opens a Pathway to University Education for Home Team Officers

Accreditation

On 7 November 2019, 24 Home Team officers from the Singapore Police Force, Immigration and Checkpoints Authority, Singapore Prisons Service, and Singapore Civil Defence Force were awarded the Certificate in Criminal Investigation by the Home Team School of Criminal Investigation (HTSCI).

The Certificate in Criminal Investigation was successfully accredited by SUSS for a period of three years after HTSCI had put itself through a rigorous review process, demonstrating its ability to meet SUSS’ academic standards and quality, and its commitment to pursuing excellence. This certificate would be recognised as a Minor, bearing 40 credit units when the officers gain admission into SUSS’ undergraduate degrees in the future.

The key driver of this effort was Mr Soh Kee Hean, the Director of HTSCI. His team worked hard with the Centre for Continuing and Professional Education (CCPE) team over two years with dogged determination. He said, “We are the first Home Team school to achieve the accreditation for our programmes, but we are not the only ones. We are not alone in this journey as the other Home Team schools are going through the process now.”

The accreditation represents yet another way SUSS contributes to the community. In the words of Associate Professor Teng Su Ching, Director of CCPE, “SkillsFuture is about maximising the potential of every Singaporean. While we focus so much on economic and workforce transformations, how can we not pay attention to the women and men who protect public order and security?”
