Bowling for a cause: Bringing Migrant Workers and Youths Together!

SUSS Bowling and Ray of Hope, a charity organisation, joined forces to host the second edition of the Building Community Champions through Sport initiative. Held amidst the festive ambience of Chinese New Year celebrations, the event unfolded at Sonic Bowl, Safra Yishun, bringing together individuals in high festive spirits.

SUSS Bowling student volunteers went the extra mile by preparing Yu Sheng, a traditional Chinese New Year dish, for the participants to "Lo Hei" and usher in good luck and prosperity for the year ahead.

With the primary objective to promote inclusivity and foster connections among migrant workers, youths and other communities in Singapore through sports, the inclusive bowling event offered opportunities for participants to interact in a fun and conducive setting. Teams were thoughtfully curated to include a mix of migrant workers, volunteers from Ray of Hope, Saint Patrick’s School, Suncare SG and SUSS Bowling students.

Ms Jaclyn Yeo, a representative from Suncare SG, expressed her joy at seeing her student volunteers embrace their new bowling experience. This suggests that the event's impact extended beyond the migrant worker community and the participants were grateful for the opportunity to enjoy an activity they would not typically engage in during their free time.

Amirah Ng, SUSS Year 3 Finance student and Captain of the Bowling Competition Group, concluded, “As one of the main organisers, it was emotionally rewarding to receive positive feedback from the participants. As a competitive bowler, my experience was limited to the competitive setting. Witnessing how the sport brought diverse communities together and smiles to their faces was truly enlightening. I am grateful that I can contribute to the community through the sport I am most passionate about.”
