For the third year running, SUSS and Southwest Community Development Council (SWCDC) brought Chinese New Year virtual cheers to seniors and their carers at the People Association’s Chingay Watch Party on 3 Feb 2023! As Singapore is an ageing society, we strive to work closely with the community to promote and create bonding opportunities with the seniors.

Before the event, Dr Kelvin Tan, SUSS Head of theMinor in Applied Ageing Studies programme, and the SUSS S R Nathan School of Human Development (NSHD) community outreach team visited Salvation Army PeaceHaven to engage the seniors with handicraft, sing-along and reminiscence sessions with VR glasses. 54 “lohei” sets were also delivered to 21 locations island-wide for the seniors in nursing homes to enjoy this festive season! This was through the generous donation of the SUSS-Nunchi Marine Age Well funding.

Gracing the event was Ms Low Yen Ling, Chairperson of Mayors' Committee & Mayor, South West District. The party, which was live-streamed, opened with the roaring performance of prancing lions and a majestic dragon dance by the Nanyang Girls’ High School (NYGH), followed by a session of creating handicrafts by Social Gifting and a sing-along and “lohei” session with children from Explorer Juniors. Associate Professor Lim Lee Ching, Dean of SUSS NSHD, thanked all the participants in making the virtual zoom party possible.
