Giving Back to the Community: Donation Partnership with Toshiba, Midea Group & SUSS

In a joint effort with Midea Group, Toshiba and SUSS, 15 washing machines were donated to eldercare centres in South West Community Development Council. Through SUSS Gerontology connections with eldercare centres around Singapore, the beneficiaries Jamiyah Nursing Home, Ren Ci @ Bukit Batok, St Luke’s Eldercare and St Luke’s Hospital were identified and nominated to receive the domestic appliances.

Ms Low Yen Ling, Mayor, South West District, Mr Li Wenguang, First Secretary, and Mr Wang Ziyun, Second Secretary from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Singapore, witnessed the ceremony. Over 50 leaders in the corporates were present in the ceremony held on 30 August at the Andaz Singapore Hotel. The representatives of the beneficiaries from Jamiyah Nursing Home, Ren Ci @ Bukit Batok, St Luke’s Eldercare and St Luke’s Hospital were also present at the ceremony.

During the delivery of the technology items to nursing homes and care centres, Madam Ling Bee Sian, Head of Jamiyah Nursing Home, was delighted to welcome the guests from Midea Group, and explained where and how the washing machines will be placed and used. She mentioned that the donated appliances will be greatly beneficial in helping their staff and seniors maintain a clean and hygienic environment. The donation partnership with Toshiba, Midea Group and SUSS is to support and enhance the quality of life of the elderlies in Singapore. SUSS Gerontology students taking the module GER527 Technology in an Ageing Society alongside SUSS Gerontology Senior Lecturer, Dr Kelvin Tan Cheng Kian, Head of Minor in Applied Ageing Studies programme, will follow up with the beneficiaries in January 2023 on how the technologies has helped them in their daily operations.
