SUSS Analytics and Visualisation Challenge 2022: Visualising Data for a Better Singapore

On 7 September 2022, the SUSS Analytics and Visualisation Challenge 2022 (AVC22) Finals hosted participants from all five Polytechnics who competed on the theme “All Things Singapore”. The challenge involved students to create visualisation infographics on topics related to Singapore of their choice.

For the first time, AVC22 encouraged submissions of data visualisation work based on local data repositories such as data.gov.sg and singstat.org under the theme "All Things Singapore". The topics covered various aspects of our society, ranging from housing prices, migrant workers, challenges in caring for the elderly, and environmental conservation. After an intense competition with 69 participants from the Polytechnics, Team bda#1 from Temasek Polytechnic won first place at the Challenge with their submission titled, "Are We Doing Enough for the Elderly?"

Another winner of the challenge, for the very first time, was by a hybrid team of students from different Polytechnics. The Team 3 Musketeers, comprised three students from Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Singapore Polytechnic, who worked on the issue of "Singapore's Declining Growth Rate".

Associate Professor James Tan, SUSS Head, Bachelor of Business Analytics Programme said, “The AVC is the only analytics and visualisation challenge for pre-university students in Singapore to showcase their analytical work. Since its first run in 2018, the AVC has seen a tremendous growth in interest among lecturers and students at the Polytechnics and other Pre-University institutions. The number and quality of submissions has increased significantly over the years, and for the first time, we have representatives in the final Challenge from all five Polytechnics. The SUSS Business Analytics programme is committed to providing the AVC as a platform for students to express their creativity and interest in data visualisation."

Our heartiest congratulations to the winners of the Challenge, Team bda#1 comprising Pongsapak Kaewwichien, Tan Jing Kai Daniel, Khalid Bin Zainal Abiden, and Bryan Teo Zheng Jie, from Temasek Polytechnic, and Team 3 Musketeers comprising Abdul Qayyum Bin Abdul Malik from Singapore Polytechnic, Christine Ling Jia Yi from Nanyang Polytechnic, and Shen Lu form Ngee Ann Polytechnic.

Well done and thank you to all participants for making this challenge a success. See you at the SUSS Analytics and Visualisation Challenge in 2023!
