Accomplished Collaboration

Singapore Armed Forces

The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) is the military arm of the Total Defence of the Republic of Singapore, and the military component of the Ministry of Defence. Its mission is to enhance the country’s peace and security through deterrence and diplomacy, and should these fail, to secure a swift and decisive victory over the aggressor.

To support SAF’s efforts to develop its personnel professionally and academically, an MOU was signed between SUSS and SAF on 27 February 2009 to establish a strategic partnership in continuing education. Under the partnership, non-graduate SAF personnel will be able to take up any SUSS undergraduate courses, while gaining credits for their SAF Professional Military Education courses.

SUSS also supports the SAF Counselling Centre, which works towards enhancing the psycho-social well-being of military personnel by providing a range of preventive, rehabilitative and developmental services. An MOU was signed on 4 October 2011, with the parties committing to explore collaboration opportunities to strengthen the relevant courses offered by SUSS and to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and ideas between staff and students from both entities.

On 16 October 2015, SUSS signed an MOU with SAF, together with the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), Nanyang Polytechnic, Institute of Technical Education and Justice Institute of British Columbia, to jointly promote paramedicine skills mastery through training and education. SUSS’ Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering programme, with a minor in Paramedicine and Emergency Response, is one of the new programmes under the National Paramedic Training and Education Roadmap, which was launched by SAF and SCDF.
