PSS219 Public Safety and Security in Singapore is designed to provide students with a holistic understanding of the concept of public safety and public security. This course examines the threat environment that Singapore faces, and discusses strategies and initiatives by the government and relevant authorities to keep the nation safe and secure. The course also highlights factors that contribute to the perception of security. Through sharing by practitioners, this course aims to provide students the opportunity to conceptualise the application of policies and practices in keeping Singapore safe. Students will also learn the principles of stakeholder management and engagement in the development of safety and security policies for Singapore. At the end of this course, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of Singapore’s safety and security landscape. With that knowledge, they will be able to critically evaluate the challenges and formulate plans to mitigate threats.
