Asrul Daniel Ahmed is the Director of the Digital Strategic Communications Division at the Southeast Asia Regional Centre for Counter-Terrorism (SEARCCT), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysia. He has served as the Chief Operating Officer of the Global Movement of Moderates Foundation in Kuala Lumpur, and was previously a Programme Officer in the Communications Unit of the International Committee of the Red Cross’ Kuala Lumpur Regional Delegation. He did his undergraduate degree at the International Islamic University Malaysia, and earned his M.A. in International Relations at the International University of Japan in Niigata in 2005. He has presented at various panels on international security, humanitarian issues and preventing violent extremism, including the Malaysia In.Spires Forum at Oxford University (2014), Australia’s Regional Summit to Counter Violent Extremism in Sydney (2015), the Asia Pacific Roundtable in Kuala Lumpur (2016), Google’s Counterspeech Summit in Tokyo (2016), the RightsCon Summit in San Francisco (2016), the Dialogue on Countering Violent Extremism in the Middle East in Kyoto (2020), as well as the ASEAN – U.S. Regional Workshop On P/CVE (2022), the ASEAN - EU Regional Workshop on the Development of Promising Practices Related to Deradicalisation, Rehabilitation, and Reintegration Programmes (2023), and the ASEAN-Australia Workshop to Exchange Practices on Community Resilience Programs to Counter Radicalisation and Violent Extremism Activities (2023) in Bali, Indonesia.
