Dear Class of 2023,
Congratulations! The day that you had been waiting for the past four or more years is finally here! Pat yourselves on your backs, enjoy the day, take plenty of photos, celebrate with family and friends…
I wish I could tell you that things get easier from here on end. Yes, it will, and no it won’t. Of course, you will experience more ups; but the downs are inevitable as well. So walk this journey with companions, and though the numbers may dwindle, cling on to those who stay.
The next part of this message is for our Social Work graduates:
Most of you will go into the social sector with the desire to help others. It is a noble calling, and one that will take its toll. So remember to ‘put on your oxygen masks’, before helping others.
With the privilege of being called a Social Worker, also comes the responsibility to uphold the values of the profession. Many will recall ‘Social Justice’, but lesser remember ‘Integrity’ or ‘Competence’.
Always act with integrity, it is not an option. And continue to learn and improve our knowledge & skills to better help our clients; competence is a journey, not a destination.
May you be blessed as you embark on this new chapter in your lives. Godspeed.
