Are we in the DEEP end? Using artificial intelligence to develop student feedback literacy
In this talk, Rongchan will discuss how educators can potentially use artificial intelligence (AI) to develop student feedback literacy in language learning. First, she will define key terms such as AI, feedback and student feedback literacy. Next, she will illustrate how language educators can potentially use AI to develop student feedback literacy and enhance students’ language learning experiences. Subsequently, she will put forth the DEEP approach to employing AI in education meaningfully: to promote Disciplinary learning, to Empower students, to adopt an Ethical approach and to embrace a Paradigm shift in our perspective towards assessment and learning. Finally, she will highlight the need to consider the role of humans and the quality of human experience in assessment practices supported by AI. Though her discussion is situated in Chinese language education, the key principles underpinning the proposed strategies would be transferrable across contexts.
