BEng Aerospace Systems

A programme with a wide spectrum of courses in avonics, aerodynamics/propulsion and aerospace management.

BEng Aerospace Systems

The Bachelor of Engineering Aerospace Systems is a broad-based multi-disciplinary programme with a wide spectrum of courses in avonics, aerodynamics/propulsion and aerospace management targeted for the MRO and applied research and development sector of the aviation industry.

In addition, our partnership with a world renowned aerospace academic institution, Cranfield University together with our local industry partners such as ST Aerospace and Republic of Singapore Air Force ensures that our curriculum stays relevant to the industry.

Furthermore, our approach towards education has always hinged on the philosophy of "learn in class at night, apply at work the next morning". And this is only possible because our teaching staff are in touch with the cutting edge of the industry. We collaborate with industry and engage many of their senior management to develop and teach in our courses, exposing the students to the best practices in the industry within the classroom.

Having said that, we do have a number of unique courses embedded in our programmes which essentially provide a level of exposure not commonly found elsewhere. For example:

A Primer on Aerospace and Aviation at Cranfield University
This is a 5-day, full-time course conducted in Cranfield University whereby the students are taken up on a flight sortie in a customised Jetstream 31 airplane to learn how to evaluate flight performance of an aircraft. The other parts of the programme cover aspects of wind tunnel testing, airport operations, accident and emergency handling, accident investigation and the effects of bird strikes on aircraft in flight, all taught by renowned academic staff from Cranfield University.

Admission Requirements

Refer to general admission criteria for undergraduate programmes.

Interviews will be conducted for some shortlisted applicants to assess their suitability in terms of their motivation and ability to complete the programme.

Programme Structure

This is a direct honours programme; graduating students who meet the honours eligibility criteria will be awarded the respective honours classification. To graduate, students are required to complete a total of 170 credit units (cu) of courses, inclusive of 10 cu of SUSS core courses.

Breakdown of the courses that students must take are as follows:

  • 10 cu of SUSS Core courses. These courses are pitched at Level 1. All courses from this group will be taken from the university-wide core of courses offered for breadth exposure for students.
  • 25 cu of courses in mathematics, computer algebra and computing pitched at Levels 1 and 2. These 5 cu courses form the Basic Skills Group in Mathematics and Computing. The School of Science and Technology (SST) of Singapore University of Social Sciences will provide the course development/presentation support for these courses.
  • 30 cu of courses spanning Levels 1 and 3 in General Engineering and Aviation Management Group. - 15 cu of courses providing students will sufficient training in electronics engineering. These form the Electronics Engineering Group, with SST support provided for course presentation.
  • 55 cu of courses forming the Aerospace Systems/Engineering group spanning Levels 1 to 3. Of prime importance, will be the 10cu, 6-day full-time aerospace course where students will be required to attend at CU covering all the essential practical aspects of aerospace operations and engineering.
  • The 10 cu Capstone Aerospace Design Project course will again be developed/presentation with industry/academic inputs.
  • Students are additionally required to choose a total of 25 cu (5, 5 cu) electives from a basket of 13, 5 cu courses.
Module Types

(Students are required to complete & pass at least 15 cu from Engrg Elective in order to graduate)

Between 0 to 10 cu

Working adults in the avionics/aerospace engineering, aviation maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) sector and Singapore Armed Forces personnel who are either A-Level graduates or diploma holders from the local polytechnics.

Close to 90% of our current students are working adults and similarly about 90% of them are diploma holders.

The programme is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Board (EAB), Institution of Engineers Singapore (IES). Through this accreditation, the BEHAS degree is recognised in Singapore and other countries in the Washington Accord.

In addition, the BEHAS Programme Advisory Committee (PAC) was formed in 2010 to support the quality of the programme. Comprising senior management representatives from aerospace companies/organisations, its main objective is to provide vision and strategic plan for the programme as well as monitor its performance in meeting annual objectives. The PAC also oversees the curriculum and provides recommendations for changes.

Furthermore, all our courses are evaluated by academics from both local and overseas universities to ensure that the stringent academic standards are met.
