The 5th JJT series successfully concluded on 8 September 2022.

The 5th instalment welcomed guest speakers Justin Mui, Executive Director, Lutheran Community Care Services Ltd (LCCS), and Charlotte Yang, a third-year SUSS Public Safety and Security (PSS) undergraduate, who provided different perspectives into the role of restorative justice in maintaining respectful relationships.

From a practitioner perspective, Justin used his experience to engage attendees in understanding the significant role the elements of restorative justice play in enhancing communal relationships. His sharing deepened attendees’ comprehension of restorative justice practices and how guiding principles of restorative practices can be applied to nurture respectful connections.

Justin Mui receives a token of appreciation from Dr Omer Ali Saifudeen, SUSS Senior Lecturer.

Charlotte Yang, a PSS student, offered her insights and perspectives by sharing her experiences implementing elements of restorative justice in different contexts. This includes her internship with the Singapore Prison Service and her role as a panellist in a dialogue session at the European Forum for Restorative Justice Sassari 2022.

She shared, “JJT gave me the opportunity to experience and understand the spirit of restorative justice better. It is a way of being, not just practice – JJT and my interactions with Justin proved that motto.”

The event concluded with a lively Q&A session that facilitated active discussion among the guest speakers and attendees on how these theories of restorative justice can be more closely paired with their daily life contexts.
