What do you like about SUSS Open House?

It was humbling to meet prospective students who are curious to know more about what our School of Law offers. They came with open minds, posing many questions to current students about their experiences in this course resulting in lively exchanges. Overall, I had a fun time with the faculty sharing our thoughts on the new school.

What do you like about the SUSS degree programme?

School of Law programmes, in particular, have a unique approach to its learning methodology. The faculty takes full advantage of technology to deliver interactive and engaging classes. Not only are they dedicated, they are also willing to go the extra mile in helping students develop invaluable skills and inculcate a culture of lifelong learning.

How has the SUSS degree programme benefitted you?

SUSS provides an attractive programme structure which focuses on the practical aspects of the course of study. The curriculum is well-suited to working adults, imparting knowledge that can be easily applied in the related field of work. As a full-time Paralegal, the skills gained in school and at work can be used interchangeably while providing me with the opportunity to hone those skills in both my course of study and work.

Some wise words

Success requires failure, courage and hard work. However, success can never be achieved alone as it is important for all of us to help each other during our individual pursuits. That’s what societal successes are built on.

What do you like about SUSS Open House?

Speaking to students who are preparing to enter university, and their parents, reminded me of the time when I was in their shoes. Memories of the mix of excitement and anxiety I felt came flooding back to me. It motivated me and reassured me of my choice to study at SUSS.

What do you like about the SUSS degree programme?

The self-study aspect of the SUSS degree programmes allows one to learn at his/her own pace, whilst the modules’ flexible schedules allow students to have an optimal schedule that suits their needs.

How has the SUSS degree programme benefitted you?

Project-based assignments, which are mainly based on genuine data and real-life scenarios, provide us with a realistic insight into things we would likely have to deal with when we step into the working world.

Some wise words

Take care of yourself, physically and mentally. Also, keep old friends whilst making new friends with course-mates and even professors!

What do you like about SUSS Open House?

I love the Open House as it allows me to get to know more people, and share with prospective students about SUSS’ offerings and how my degree has benefitted me in more ways than one. I think it helps to prepare prospective students in giving them a clearer picture of what they are getting themselves into, what it means to be a working-student and how they can better prepare themselves for it.

What do you like about the SUSS degree programme?

I like the flexibility of the programme which allowed me to work and study at the same time – it allowed me to realise my dream of getting a degree which I was unable to earlier in life due to financial constraints and family commitments. It allowed me to work and support my family while studying in my own time.

I like how organised everything is in SUSS – timetable is given and that allowed me to do up a 3-year plan right from the beginning; think of ways to fit in the modules I wanted to take while juggling work commitments and working around my work schedule. I also like that the textbooks are given to us and we do not have to scramble to look for it.

How has the SUSS degree programme benefitted you?

The degree is a perfect match for my job (I am a private tutor). It enabled me to understand my students better and why they are struggling, reacting or behaving in a certain way and how I can handle them. It has also helped me to fill the emotional tank of my students and at the same time, equipped me with the skills needed to teach better.

Some wise words

Start with the end in mind. Set a goal and work towards it – remember that there’ll always be light at the end of the tunnel. The obstacles and challenges you face today will only make you a better and stronger person tomorrow.

Talents and achievements:

My degree from SUSS has brought me to greater heights and something I never dared dream of in my life – a master’s degree. I am currently pursuing my Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics.

What do you like about SUSS Open House?

The Open House provided me with an opportunity to interact with staff, students and alumni to find out more about the courses I am interested in applying. It also provided me a deeper insight into the University's culture and students’ lives.

What do you like about the SUSS degree programme?

The short weeks during modules have been really beneficial for me as it provided me with days to work (part-time), volunteer, and explore other areas of interest. These have allowed me to push myself out of my comfort zone and expanded my capabilities.

How has the SUSS degree programme benefitted you?

As modules in SUSS are largely learnt through self-studying and preparation, I have learnt to be more disciplined in managing my time, to finish the necessary readings and assignments. Moreover, discussions during tutorials have also allowed me to gain confidence in speaking up while expanding my perspectives of issues discussed.

What do you like about  Open House?

The Open House provides one and all with the opportunity to speak with the programme administrators to clear our doubts and answer our queries, giving us a better idea of the programme and its expectations. The Open House also allows us to meet the lecturers, who can advise us on the path we can take upon graduation.

What do you like about the SUSS degree programme?

It allows me to gain working experience while undertaking a part-time degree programme. The part-time degree programmes are well geared towards the schedule of working adults whereby 50% of the knowledge is learnt in class and the other half through self-study.

How has the SUSS degree programme benefitted you?

The SUSS degree benefitted me as the modules taught were relevant at work and I have learnt skills in the Management Minor which are beneficial in any organisational setting.

Some wise words

When it gets tough or stressful, always remember why you started your journey. Think about the countless number of seniors who graduated before you who were on the same journey as well. If they can do it, so can you.

Talents and achievements:

I have represented SUSS in both the Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic Games (IVP Games) as well as the Singapore University Games (SUniG) since 2016.
