Making Our Mark For The Greater Good

Editor's Note

Home to over 30,000 graduates and 15,000 students each year, SUSS learners come from all walks of life with different aspirations and learning needs. Our unique, applied-oriented and interdisciplinary education, offered through multiple learning pathways, imparts professional knowledge and skills, the thirst to learn more, and a passion for society to them. Armed with an SUSS education, our students and graduates are better prepared to add value to their profession, advance their career and give back to society.

Giving back and helping others are opportunities afforded to everyone. Giving back creates an impact; it positively changes other’s life. Even the smallest acts of kindness can transform lives.

Making an impact on others does not always have to be of monetary value; we can give our time, our effort and our expertise to make a difference in the community. Volunteer at a non-profit organisation, become a mentor, donate blood, run errands for your elderly neighbour…the opportunities are endless.

When we give back, we create a ripple effect that goes far beyond those we help. It inspires others to do the same, and to lend a helping hand to those around them, extending the impact far and wide. Pay it forward by doing a good deed for someone you know or even a total stranger.

Giving encourages cooperation and social connection; these exchanges promote a sense of trust that strengthens ties to others. By giving to others, we make them feel closer to us, just as we feel closer to them. It makes for a happier and healthier relationship all around.

Our student Ms Rosalind Foo and our alumnus Mr Ang Yew Shen are models of such giving individuals. Find out how they have committed their time, energy and resources to helping others, and are making their mark for the greater good!

Hear from our new Provost, Professor Robbie Goh, too about the progress SUSS has made over the years, and how we will be building on that foundation and positioning the University to make even greater gains in the future in our vision to be the leading university for social good.
