Graduate Certificate in Artificial Intelligence of Things

Overview

The current prevailing trends across all industry sectors revolve around digitalization and digital transformation. The success and continuity of businesses now depend on their capacity to embrace and adapt to the wave of digital transformation. Many organizations actively support digitalization and digital transformation initiatives through data science projects, internet of things (IoT) projects like sensor deployment and the reinforcement of IT resources. However, a mere capture of data from sensors and displaying on dashboard does not constitute true digital transformation, and it often yields minimal to no tangible benefits for the business. This situation is akin to purchasing all the ingredients for a recipe and expecting the dish to be magically prepared without any effort.

The Graduate Certificate in Artificial Intelligence of Things (GCAIoT) programme offered by the School of Science & Technology at the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) is a specialized program designed to equip students with the fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence (AI), IoT, data strategy and business models. AI is the key for leveraging the information contained in the data collected from IoT systems. AI and IoT are the corner stones for digital transformation across industries like healthcare, smart cities, logistics, and manufacturing. Artificial Intelligence of Things, which is a combination of AI and IoT, enables the provisioning of smart and connected solutions by combining the asset intelligence (from AI) and swarm intelligence (from IoT).

This program allows students to excel in the dynamic and rapidly evolving field of AI and IoT, providing a unique educational experience that empowers students to harness the full potential of smart and connected solutions.

Key Features of the Programme

Admission Requirements

The University offers course fee concession for selected graduate programmes. Please click here for more details.

Programme Structure

Each of the courses in the GCAIoT programme is 5 credit units (cu) and can be taken on a stand-alone basis. Upon successful completion of 15 cu of coursework, these courses can be stacked to a Graduate Certificate in Artificial Intelligence of Things (GCAIoT).

Students must maintain a minimum CGPA of 2.5 in their coursework as part of the fulfilment of the graduate certificate programme.

Compulsory Courses (15 cu)

This is a programme with evening (weekdays) and morning/afternoon (weekend) classes. The minimum programme duration is 6 months.
Graduate Certificate in Artificial Intelligence of Things (GCAIoT) is typically designed for individuals with varying educational and professional backgrounds, including information technology, business management, marketing, sales, and entrepreneurship, who are looking to gain hands-on skills in the field of AIoT and develop/implement smart services in their respective industries. Students must have a keen interest in coding; a basic understanding on communication systems and working of internet; and interest in building simple electronic systems.
The specialized skills acquired during the Graduate Certificate in Artificial Intelligence of Things (GCAIoT), including sensor technology, networking, business models, AI and cloud computing, open up a wide range of career opportunities in various industries and sectors, including manufacturing, healthcare, supply chain, facility management, industry 4.0, smart city and many more where AIoT solutions continue to drive innovation and transformation. Graduates can pursue roles such as IoT Firmware Engineer, IoT System Engineer, IoT Architect, IoT Developer, AI Engineer and R&D engineer.
  1. How long is the duration to complete the Graduate Certificate in Artificial Intelligence of Things (GCAIoT)?
The GCAIoT will take 6 to 12 months to complete.

  2. When are the lessons scheduled?
Lessons are scheduled on weekdays evenings from 7 pm to 10 pm and some Saturday mornings or afternoons.

  3. What are the assessment components in each course?
It consists of a mixture of classroom participation (PCT), group-based assignments (GBAs) and End of Course Assessments (ECAs).

  4. How many intakes are there in a year for the Graduate Certificate in Artificial Intelligence of Things (GCAIoT)?
One intake a year (July semester)

  5. Instead of signing up for a Graduate Certificate programme, can I just register for one course?
Applicants may continue to sign up for modular courses as CET by submitting an application via the CET application portal. Upon successful completion of and attainment of the minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50 for the required modular courses, eligible CET students may apply for the graduate certificate.

  6. What happens if I do not complete the graduate programmes (e.g. Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, Master) within the candidature period? Can I apply to take the remaining courses via CET pathway?
Students who have not completed their graduate programmes within the stipulated candidature period will not be eligible for the award of the qualification for such graduate programmes. Such students however may apply to take, via the CET pathway, the remaining courses which they did not complete under their graduate programmes as part of their personal learning and development . Such application will be subjected to the CET admission requirement. However, as such students have exceeded the candidature period for their graduate programmes, they will not be awarded the qualification for such graduate programmes even after taking and completing the remaining courses via the CET pathway (“Condition”).

  7. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS COURSE, IS ONE OF THE COURSES UNDER A GRADUATE PROGRAMME. THEREFORE, APPLICANTS FOR THIS COURSE ARE SUBJECT TO THE FOREGOING CONDITION. BY SUBMITTING AN APPLICATION FOR THIS COURSE, THE APPLICANT AGREES TO BE SUBJECT TO THE FOREGOING CONDITION.

  8. Is the GCAIoT stackable towards other Graduate Diploma at SUSS?
The GCAIoT is stackable towards the Graduate Diploma in Artificial Intelligence of Things (GDAIoT).
