The BA Malay Language programme (BAML) is principally aimed at producing competent graduates in the field of Malay language and literature studies with a strong capacity to apply their knowledge in the work place.

All graduates of BAML will have to undergo training in all three core areas of language studies: linguistics, literature or sociology. The graduates will be competent and confident in linking linguistic knowledge and linguistic analysis, and applying this knowledge at all levels of appointments in the field of education or related industries.

In addition to the standard admission criteria for all Singapore University of Social Sciences undergraduate programmes, applicants need to meet the following requirements:

A pass in Malay at GCE 'A', 'AO' or 'O' level

Tun Tan Cheng Lock Bursary in Malay Studies
The Tun Tan Cheng Lock Endowment Fund is supporting 2 study grants at S$1,250 each semester to deserving BA Malay Language and Literature undergraduates with financial needs. The grants are open to students with good academic records (for new students), or have made satisfactory progress towards completion of his/her academic programme (for existing students).

BA Malay Language and Literature
Students are required to complete a total of 130 credit units (cu) to graduate with a basic degree, inclusive of 10 cu of university core courses.

The breakdown of the cu to be completed is:

80 cu of Compulsory core courses;
15 cu of Electives courses;
15 cu of General Electives courses;
10 cu of SUSS Core courses; and
10 cu of Behavioural Science Core courses.

BA Malay Language and Literature with Minor

Students pursuing the basic Major-Minor programmes are required to complete 130 cu, which include:

40 cu of Compulsory core courses;
15 cu of Major electives courses;
40 cu of Minor courses;
10 cu of SUSS Core courses;
10 cu Behavioural Science Core courses; and
15 cu General Elective courses.

The BAML programme is open to all Singapore citizens, permanent residents or residents in Singapore who have the interest in and commitment to pursuing a degree in Malay Language and Literature.
