Inspiring Lifelong Learning, Transforming Society Through Applied Social Sciences

Message From The President

Prof-Cheong-Hee-KiatSUSS celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. Since our inception in 2005 (then as SIM University) to our establishment as Singapore's sixth autonomous university in 2017, we have offered inclusive and flexible multi-faceted learning opportunities, to enable our students to make their mark in life.

Inspired by our conviction that people need to apply their learning, continually learn and impact lives, we focus on applied learning, lifelong learning and the social sciences.

We believe that education needs to be grounded in practice. Our programmes benefit from industry input to ensure their relevance; our curriculum is delivered by instructors with relevant work experience. We bring exciting experiential applied learning opportunities to our students thus ensuring their education experience is rich.

We believe that there is always something new to learn and that ones' learning journey should never end. That's why learning at SUSS is not bound by age or qualification, experience or background; everyone is given access to an education at our University. We instil the drive to pursue knowledge in our students; to inspire intrinsic motivation and curiosity in them, and inculcate in them that what they have learnt and applied to solve real-world issues will see them acquire new knowledge and new ideas.

We also believe that it is our role to help students discover how they can make a positive impact on society, regardless of their chosen field. As such, we strive to lay a strong foundation of social awareness, understanding and inclination. We embed the social sciences into all our disciplines because we want our students to build a better community and contribute to society.

Through our 'Head, Heart, Habit' educational philosophy, we develop well-rounded individuals who are professionally competent with the desire to effect social impact, and continually learning to serve and transform society. Strategic collaborations with various partners have helped us develop such individuals. We couldn't have done it without you. Thank you!

As we journey together, we'd like to keep you informed about key developments and initiatives in the University, to engage with you and to hear from you, hence this newsletter. Partnerships build bridges; encourage exchange and sharing of ideas, knowledge and skills; synergise resources, capabilities and capacities; and allow us, collectively, to succeed. That's why we have named our partners newsletter, SUCCESS.

We look forward to your continued support as our valuable partners, and that by working as one, we will be inspiring lifelong learning, transforming society through applied social sciences and making our mark for the greater good.
