SUSS Early Childhood Education Conference 2023

Co-organised with IPC children's charity Playeum, the 1-day conference aims to bring together educators, centre leaders and early intervention practitioners in Singapore to rethink the connections between play and learning, so as to support joyful learning within childcare centres, kindergartens, lower primary classrooms and other educational settings.

Research on the positive impact of play on children’s learning and development has been evident. This conference aims to provide educators and practitioners with opportunities to learn and dialogue with speakers to re-define their own play pedagogies, assessments and consider leadership adjustments needed to support educators and work more effectively with families.

The conference will have keynote presentations in the morning and concurrent workshops in the afternoon. Invited speakers include both local and overseas-based speakers. The workshops will include interactive discussions, playful and creative activities and reflective exercises.

Target audience for the conference include early childhood educators and centre leaders, lower primary educators, early intervention practitioners, social service practitioners and other practitioners working with young children.

The conference aims to

  • advocate for different forms of playful learning experiences
  • enable educators’ active reflection and rethinking of play pedagogies
  • support educators’ abilities to observe and assess children’s holistic development through playful learning contexts
  • facilitate leaders’ rethinking about centre-wide practices to enhance playful learning
